Specialist Provision

Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) at Rugby Free Secondary School

At Rugby Free Secondary School, our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) offers a bespoke and nurturing programme for students in Years 7 to 11 whose primary area of need is Communication and Interaction. This includes young people with Autism, speech and language difficulties, developmental delays, hearing impairments, sensory processing needs, and associated anxiety or motor coordination challenges.

Located at the heart of our inclusive school, the SRP provides a calm, welcoming, and supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Our Vision

  • Supporting students to be happy, healthy, and safe in the modern world
  • Empowering them to know more, remember more, and do more
  • Inspiring students to set and achieve ambitious, meaningful goals
  • Promoting inclusion and acceptance, ensuring access to an ambitious curriculum for all
  • Helping students develop the skills and confidence to contribute positively to their communities

“Resourced provision allows children to attend mainstream school, whilst accessing specialist provision. Placement in these settings is agreed by the Local Authority Provision Panel. This may be appropriate for a child with an EHC plan or who is undertaking the EHC assessment process.

Curriculum and Learning Approach

Our curriculum is broad, balanced, and meaningful, tailored to meet the diverse needs of each learner. Students benefit from:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Set for Life Skills
  • Access to the National and GCSE Curriculum, with personalised support
  • Opportunities to follow alternative pathways, including Functional Skills and life skills qualifications

We deliver our curriculum through inclusive, evidence-based practices that place students at the centre of their learning. This includes:

  • Stimulating active engagement and curiosity, while scaffolding independence
  • Encouraging collaboration and peer learning
  • Promoting appropriate challenge for all students
  • Enabling creativity and self-expression across subjects
  • Developing oracy, helping students become confident speakers and reflective listeners
  • Carefully sequencing learning for logical progression and real-world relevance
  • Revisiting prior learning to support long-term memory and knowledge transfer
  • Integrating assistive technologies to support learning and communication
  • Providing timely and appropriate support to access both academic content and enrichment
  • Aligning curriculum planning with EHCP Section F targets
  • Grounding all teaching in high-quality, research-informed practice

Inclusion and Enrichment

Students in the SRP are encouraged to attend at least 50% of their lessons within the main school, with full support from SRP staff. They also have access to a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities, including sports, arts, and personal development opportunities.

Our provision is fully integrated with the wider school community, ensuring every student feels a strong sense of belonging and inclusion.

Who is the SRP for?

The SRP is designed for students whose primary additional educational need is Communication and Interaction, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Speech and language disorders
  • Developmental delays
  • Hearing impairments
  • Sensory and motor coordination difficulties
  • Anxiety related to communication needs
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

⚠️ Please note: The SRP is not suitable for students whose primary barrier to mainstream education is Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are a small, specialist setting with a maximum capacity of 20 students, allowing us to provide truly individualised support.
