MFL

MFL will support students to learn a second language, but also open their minds to other cultures and ways of living.

Learning a second language will equip students with new skills, such as resilience and curiosity and transferable skills to other subjects and live experiences.

 
 

What are they learning?

Year 7


Topic 1 - Spanish across the World Students will learn about different countries across the world that speak Spanish as a second language. They will also learn how to introduce themselves to Spanish speakers. Topic 2 - Spanish through Art At RFSS we have combined other curriculum content with languages. In this case, students will learn about different artists, and will also learn to describe pictures and physical appeareance in Spanish through the study of paintings. Topic 3 - My Hobbies Students will have the opportunity to learn traditional Sports, Music in Spain and to develop more speaking skills to give opinions and describe their preferences. Topic 4 - Restaurant Linking content with the real world is essential for learning a second language. In this case students will develop skills to communicate and interact in a real situation in a restaurant, learning about food and typical Spanish dishes. Topic 5 - Moving around the city Comunicating when you are travelling is one of the most exciting and useful skills we will develop. In this topic, students will learn basic skills to move around a city and ask for help and places. Topic 6 - My dream house Recognise vocabulary about different homes. Combining with hotels booking and traveling.




Year 9


Taster - In this first approach to Spanish, students will understand how important it is to be able to comunicate in a second language, and how proud they should be of willing to do GCSE Spanish. In these weeks we will go through Spanish across the world, languages curiosities, and basic comunication skills. Developing resilience and colaboration to do their best of their ability in the lessons. Topic 1 - Holidays and hobbies The students will learn to discuss holidays and weather in present and past tense. Booking and describing holiday accomodations, and describing holiday activities and itineraries. Topic 2 - School We will learn how to describe our school, uniform and different teachers. Students will also learn how to express more developed opinions and reasons about different subjects, and to express what academic activities they enjoy the most.

Year 8


Topic 1 - Holidays Students will learn how to describe using the past tense, and describe holidays including transport activities, and to express opinions. Topic 2 - Different lives Discover other Spanish speaking countries and traditions. Students will learn to express preferences and to investigate and develop their curiosity about other cultures. Topic 3 - Making plans Students will learn to arrange plans in Spanish, using prepositions of place, places in town, and telling the time in Spanish. This will allow them to comunicate more effectively. Topic 4 - Influencers Students will learn to describe their role models and famous people they admire. We will also learn how to describe entertainment platforms, and describe what they like. Topic 5 - Restaurant Linking content with the real world is essential for learning a second language. In this case students will develop skills to communicate and interact in a real situation in a restaurant, learning about food and typical Spanish dishes. Topic 6 - Destiny Spain In this topic we will learn basic skills that will allow students to be independent, and to be able to book a hotel room, move around a city and ask for help in a Spanish speaking country.




GCSE


Topic 1 - Holidays and hobbies Students will learn to discuss holidays and weather in present and past tense. Booking and describing holiday accomodations and describing holiday activities and itineraries. Topic 2 - School We will learn how to describe our school, uniform and different teachers. Students will also learn to express more developed opinions and reasons about different subjects, and to express what academic activities they enjoy the most. Topic 3 - Identity and culture Students will develop curiosity about other ways of living across the world. They will learn how to describe people and their families. Also they will collaborate to arrange plans, and improvising dialogues, creating more real communicative situations in the classroom. Topic 4 - Interest and influences Students will develop their resilience, improving their opinions about free time activities, and combining more tenses and vocabulary. They will also present their role models and main inspirational references. Topic 5 - Local area Talking about shops and describing features of a region. Talking about problems in a town and developing a critical opinion about what facilities young people have in the area. Topic 6 - Food and Restaurants In this topic students will discover typical food from different Spanish countries, and will also develop skills to communicate in real situations, and developing grammar structures combining different tenses. Topic 7 - Future Aspirations Students will learn about how to apply for a job in Spanish, and the importance of learning a second language, describing work experience and discussing gap years. Topic 8 - International and Global Dimension We will finish describing healthy lifestyles, and the importance of having an active healthy life. We will also discuss global issues.
